Setting up the Machine Tool and using good manufacturing practices are just as important as writing a good program. Ron Branch points out the importance of the fundamentals in this excellent article on machine setup.

The setting up, on machine tools seems to be a lost art these days. Most people get in such a hurry to get something going they forget the basics. It is just like building a house you cannot build the roof without first building the foundation and the walls.
There are three main advantages to using a horizontal Machining Center in production. • The Pallet rotates, allowing for multiple operations
• Typically there are two Pallets, allowing for one Pallet to be loaded while the other is in the cut.
• Gravity allows better chip evacuation from hole and cavity operations, allowing for increased productivity and better tool life.
There is, however an advantage that trumps all others and will enable your Horizontal to perform the Lions share of the mill work in your Shop: Flexibility.
I had an enlightening consumer experience the other day, I make online training videos and I was not satisfied with the audio quality,
After reading up online, I came to the conclusion that I needed either a better sound card for my laptop or a peripheral device that would replace my sound card and give me good quality audio, I decided on the second option and made my way down to Guitar Center.
Walking in through the main doors of Westec you will be greeted by a Salesperson in a technician’s outfit. Haas gets it.
when I talk Machine Tools, I want to speak with a knowledgeable salesperson. That technician’s outfit sends the message that this company is all business.
If you have been wondering if shrink fit tooling (left) is right for you, you're not alone. I stopped by the Haimer booth at Westec and asked Haimer U.S.A. President Brendt Holden what it's all about.
Shrink fit tooling uses an inductive heating process to expand the bore of the tool holder, so that you can slip in a cutting tool, the next step is a 30 second cooling process that shrinks the tool holder around the shank of the tool, creating essentially a press fit, Just repeat the heating process to remove the tool.
Were here folks, after a seamless flight on Southwest, we enter the fray in Los Angeles and head for the L.A. convention center. It's overcast and cool, and we soon learn to count to three before entering an intersection on a green light. Angelinos view red lights as suggestions, rather than mandatory.
The 2009 Northern California H-TEC conference was held at DeAnza College in Cupertino on October 24th and featured speakers from around the State on the future of the Metal Working Industry, judging by the attendance, the future looks bright.
Quality Assurance is the responsibility of the Quality department; the goal is to guarantee consistent results throughout the organization and is accomplished by implementing systems that ensure that processes are in place to verify form, fit, functionality and design intent. These processes include document control and inspection techniques, such as first article, in-process and final inspection. Quality assurance is independent of particular components or assemblies; it is the roadmap by which the manufacturing department must navigate the production process

We won't feel it for a while, but a new dawn will begin in spring of '09
The first recession that I noticed was in the early 1980s, I had just finished my apprenticeship in the U.K. The Thatcher Government delivered shock and awe in overthrowing the socialists and defeating the trade union movement. The long term results were 20 years of prosperity, but the initial shock was brutal.
